Community Resources for Independent Seniors
in the Cazenovia, Nelson and Fenner areas
CRIS began in September 2009 as a result of needs that senior adults identified during the Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce Senior Housing Feasiblity Study focus groups and surveys. CRIS is a 501c3 organization.
The CRIS mission is to develop and coordinate supportive services within the Cazenovia, Nelson and Fenner areas to help residents stay in their homes as long as possible. CRIS will also identify, advocate for, attract and implement other services identified as needed in the area. CRIS is envisioned to be the center point for accessing information about events, services and vendors of interest to seniors and their families in the community.
Access to transportation for medical appointments, shopping, errands and social activities was the most frequently mentioned need in the Feasibility Study. In May 2010, CRIS-CAT (Community Area Transportation) was formed. Steve Burrell recruited and coordinates 50 + volunteers to provide needed rides for residents. Area residents needing a ride may call 655-0612 at least 2-3 days before needing a ride.
Call CRIS at 655-5743. Office hours are Mon/Tues. 1 – 3 p.m, Fri. 8-10 a.m. Please call ahead as our hours may change to attend meetings or events. CRIS is located at 101 Nelson Street, (next to McDonalds on Rt. 20), Cazenovia, NY 13035.
